Healthy Foods for Healthy Skin - August 27th, 2009

We don’t often think of our diet to be connected to things like good skin but it is a major factor in having healthy skin. Don’t you remember your parents telling you as a child, “you are what you eat”? Well, they were definitely on to something. I recently read an article that said they have even linked some skin conditions such as eczema to a poor diet. One of the most important vitamins to promote good skin health is Vitamin A. One of the easiest ways to get your daily allowance of Vitamin A is in low fat dairy products. We can also find Vitamin A in butternut squash, pumkin, sweet potatoes, mangos, spinach, and carrots just to name a few. We also need Vitamin C in our diet for healthy skin, eating foods like cauliflower, oranges, grapefruit, kiwi and mangoes will give you a good source of Vitamin C. Another benefit to healthy skin are foods that are antioxidant such as strawberries, plums and blackberries.  There are many ways that we can help promote healthy skin. Having a good diet is one of the easiest ways to promote healthy skin. Drinking plenty of water is essential to promote good health all around but it is a very important factor to have healthy looking skin. Just remember, we are what we eat. See, our parents really did know what they were talking about!

Home remedies for blackheads found in your kitchen cupboard - August 26th, 2009

I found some interesting home remedies for blackheads and the remedies I am speaking of are items that you can find in your kitchen cupboard. Try beating an egg white and apply it to your face, wash with water and lightly scrub with towel while drying your face. We all have an egg in the refrigerator, right?I personally like to make a scrub of salt, lemon and honey. If I have it on hand I will add some yogurt to it, scrub your face for about 5 minutes and pat dry. Very refreshing. I have a friend that has a home remedy for blackheads that she swears by. She uses lime juice and boiled milk, after it cools she uses it for a face wash. I haven’t tried her version yet but I must say, I am definitely intrigued.  Try mixing one teaspoon of lemon juice and one teaspoon of ground cinnamon and use for a face wash. I dont know why but I have more trouble with the blackheads in the summer months. Another one of my personal favorites is using undiluted lemon juice on the affected areas for a couple of days until they are clear. These are all items we have hanging around in our kitchen.
